Global Aluminum Surplus in January Comes to 117,00t

London, March 19—WBMS announced on Wednesday that global surplus of aluminum in January is 117,00t this year, and 114,000t of January in 2007, while the full year surplus in 2007 is 534,000t.
The demand for primary aluminum in January this year is 3,163,000t, up 206,000t from the previous year of the same period. The output of January primary aluminum reprsents a year-on year growth of 6.8%, or209,000t, to 3,280,000t.
The inventory volume is slightly over 3,095,000t by the end of January, equivalent to a four-week demand, while the total inventory of Shanghai, Tokyo and London exchanges increase to 1,060,000t, and the number is 1,044,000t by the end of 2007.
The January output of primary aluminum in China this year rises to 148,000t, about one third of the global output. China imports bauxite totaled 2,100,000t in January this year, representing 13% of the global output.
The aluminum output of EU’s 27 countries rises 7.7%.
The global output and consumption of primary aluminum in January respectively comes to 3,279,900t and 3,163,100t.
