Chinalco's 2007 Sales Rise 24% on Gain in Output

Jan. 14 (Bloomberg) - Aluminum Corp. of China, the world's second-largest alumina producer, had a 24 percent gain in 2007 sales on expanded output of copper and from overseas acquisitions, Xinhua News Agency said, citing a company official.
Sales rose to 131.7 billion yuan ($18 billion) in 2007 and its annual profit exceeded 20 billion yuan for two consecutive years, Lu Youqing, its deputy general manager was citied as saying. The company, also known as Chinalco, didn't say whether the profit was before or after tax.
Chinalco plans to apply to list in the Fortune Global 500, Lu said, according to Xinhua. The company produced 10 million tons of alumina last year, up from 9.62 million tons, and aluminum production jumped 21 percent, the report said.
Aluminum Corp. of China is the nation's biggest maker of the lightweight metal.
