Chihong Zn & Ge Will Reduce Output of Lead and Zinc During 2008
According to the company’s annual report, Chihong Zn & Ge (zinc capacity: 160,000 tons/year; lead capacity: 100,000 tons/year) plans to produce a combined 274.7kt of lead and zinc during 2008, up 3% from 2007, but much less than the 24% increase in output over 2006.
The company also plans to produce 174.7kt of zinc and zinc alloy, up 0.7% from its 2007 output of 173.4kt. The company also plans to produce 100kt of lead, up 7% from the 2007 output of 93kt.

CBI believes the company has no expansion plans for 2008 and the scheduled output is a reflection of its normal operating rates. Growth of zinc output in 2008 will slow as the majority of new capacity will be put into production during 2009. Growth of lead output will be higher during 2008, at 16%, a result of the new capacity built in 2007 put into production this year.
