AngloGold, Anglo Platinum: South African Equity Market Preview |
The following is a list of companies whose shares may have unusual price changes in South Africa. Stock symbols are in parentheses after company names and prices are from the last close.
The FTSE/JSE Africa All Share Index fell 970.09, or 3.8 percent, to 24,923.09 in Johannesburg on Sept. 23. Yesterday was a public holiday in South Africa.
AngloGold Ashanti Ltd. (ANG SJ): Gold rose for the first time in three days as investors bought the metal as a store of value. The metal gained 0.7 percent to $888.75 an ounce as of 7:25 a.m. Johannesburg time. AngloGold, Africa's biggest gold producer, rose 7 rand, or 3.5 percent, to 207 rand.
Anglo Platinum Ltd. (AMS SJ): Platinum prices rose as much as 1.1 percent to $1,216 an ounce as the dollar weakened. Anglo Platinum, the world's biggest platinum producer, fell 77 rand, or 8.6 percent, to 820 rand.
Shares or American depositary receipts of the following South African companies closed as follows:
Anglo American Plc (AAUK US) fell 7.8 percent to $18.40. AngloGold Ashanti Ltd. (AU US) climbed less than 0.1 percent to $25.10.BHP Billiton Ltd. (BBL US) rose 0.2 percent to $52.67. DRDGold Ltd. (DROOY US) was unchanged at $5.39. Gold Fields Ltd. (GFI US) fell 1.1 percent to $9.24. Harmony Gold Mining Co. (HMY US) gained 1.2 percent to $10.30. Impala Platinum Holdings Co. (IMPUY US) fell 1.5 percent to $21.23. Sappi Ltd. (SPP US) rose 0.7 percent to $9.84. Sasol Ltd. (SSL US) rose 0.6 percent to $41.70. Telkom South Africa Ltd. (TKG US) added less than 0.1 percent to $52.45.
