| There was rumor in the market again that the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) may impose export ban on cobalt concentrates.
There has been no official communiqué from the central or regional government yet, sources said, although a number of market sources reported rumors of a new ban on April 9th.
Market insiders mostly remand conservative to the implementation term of the ban, and believed that the ban may repeat the case that 16 companies in Katanga province, predominantly cobalt producers, were prohibited on February 8, but the ban was lifted soon after it was imposed.
Recently, China's domestic importing channels narrowed, and most large ore suppliers faced supply shortage. Currently, cobalt ore (Co≥6%) was mainly traded between USD 14.5-15/lbs.
