Our history

1980- In 1980, our company was established and named as the state-owned ‘Shanghai Metal Materials Company’, with the business intention of manufacturing hot rolled steel and cold rolled steel, hardware, and agricultural accessories.

 

1999- In 1999 an investment from UK based ‘Anglo Investment Co’, saw the beginning of the production of steel pipes.  

 

2000- By 2000, new investment through ‘Taiwan Minchali Ltd’ and ‘Taiwan Gongcheng Metal Ltd’ saw beginning of the production of copper strips and copper foil. 

 

2001- After one year, by 2001 SMC began production in the areas of copper tubing, brass tubing, and stainless steel products.  

 

2003- Two years later in 2003, state-owned Shanghai Metal Materials Company was renamed to Shanghai Metal Corporation, and started new production lines of galvanized steel coil, PPGI, PPGL.

 

2004- In 2004 SMC launched Shanghai Metal (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd, which later began the production of aluminum products.

 

2006- In 2006 SMC Initiated a series of construction projects, including steel structures and steel bridges. 

 

2007- After one year, the SMC industry had changed and new projects were being explored. As a result, SMC discovered the new project fields of standard and special shipping containers, and container houses.

 

2008- By 2008, Shanghai Metal ventured into the production of Mechanical and Electrical equipment. 

 

Present- Today, SMC has begun supplying medical commodities. Whilst aiming for perfection in the current industries of operation, SMC are always looking for business opportunities and are willing to test ourselves in perhaps unknown territories.
