High-strength honeycomb has a larger density and a more complex manufacturing process, so density tolerance control will be much more difficult. The manufacture of high-performance, high-density honeycombs can usually be achieved by changing the cell grid or increasing the wall thickness:
Very small cells: This high-strength honeycomb structure is often called microporous honeycomb, and the side length of the cells is often less than 1mm. According to the calculation of the honeycomb equivalent density formula, it can be concluded that under the same cell conditions, every time the cell side length of the honeycomb is reduced by one-half, the density increases by nearly 2 times. As a result, microporous honeycombs can easily reach the level of medium- and high-density honeycombs.
Extra thick cell walls: Taking aluminum honeycomb as an example, the thickness of honeycomb aluminum foil usually does not exceed 0.2mm, and aluminum foils of 0.04mm, 0.06mm, 0.08mm, 0.10mm and 0.15mm are often used. In order to achieve high strength requirements, thick-walled plates are usually stamped and formed by brazing, laser welding or special bonding. This kind of honeycomb made by forming method has a density of more than 150kg/m3. Using corrugated 301 stainless steel honeycomb with a plate thickness of 0.381mm, the density can reach 2917kq/m3
