The cast copper rotor from Shanghai Metal Corporation is a new type of motor rotor with copper as the conductive matrix.
The electrical conductivity of copper is about 40% higher than that of aluminum. The cast copper rotor is used to replace the
cast aluminum rotor widely used in the squirrel cage three-phase asynchronous motor. The total loss of the motor will be
significantly reduced, thus improving the overall efficiency of the electric machine.

Copper high pressure die casting requires a high purity of the melted mass and a casting temperature of approx. 1,150 °C. These prerequisites are in place and therefore cost-effective series production is possible. In order to further improve the efficiency of energy-saving motors, the cage cast in the motor’s rotor can be manufactured using copper instead of aluminium high pressure die casting.
